Professional Profile: Dr. Weder di Mauro is a Professor of Economics at the University of Mainz.
Since 2004 she is a member of the German Council of Economic Experts, which advises the German government on economic policy and economic development and the Deutsche Bundesbank. She is the first woman and the first non-German to hold this position.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of Roche and a research affiliate at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) London.
Previously she worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank in Washington, and the OECD Development Centre. She has served on the Council of Economic Advisors of Switzerland, advising the Swiss government on economic policy. She has been a consultant for various international organisations including the International Finance Corporation and the the United Nations University. Her visiting positions include: National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Federal Reserve Board of New York, International Monetary Fund, Harvard University, United Nations University, Tokyo.
She has been a columnist for Basler Zeitung, Switzerland and publishes frequently for American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of International Money and Finance, World Development, Economics and Politics, Economic Letters, European Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics, Journal of Economic Surveys, Review of World Economics (Weltwirtschaftliches Archiv), Swiss Economic Review (Schweizerische Zeitschrift für Volkswirtschaft und Statistik), Economics of Governance, Kyklos, Economic Systems, International Finance, Journal of African Economics, US National Science Foundation, Israel Science Foundation.
She is considered one of Germany's economic "Wise Men" as a result of her work at some of the world’s leading institutions and she is recognised as a global authority on economic policy.
