Professional Profile: Douglas Anderson has designed and delivered customized seminars and strategic workshops for more than 20 years for dozens of companies and thousands of managers. His skills as an educator of senior executives in the areas of strategy, leadership, and change have been widely praised and sought after in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
Doug's teaching career began at Harvard University in 1976 where he taught the first year course in economics before becoming a professor at Harvard Business School from 1978 to 1988. At HBS he taught Competition and Strategy, Production and Operations Management, and Business, Government and the International Economy in the MBA and executive programs of the School. In addition to his faculty appointment at Harvard, he has also been a guest lecturer at Stanford and an Adjunct Professor at Brigham Young University.
At CED, which he co-founded in 1987 with three other former Harvard professors, Doug has led the design, development, and delivery of customized executive education and strategic change initiatives at many global, Fortune 500 companies, including ARCO, AT&T, British Petroleum, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Chrysler, Entergy, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Florida Power & Light, John Hancock, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Johnson & Johnson, Lucent Technologies, Marsh, Inc., McNeil Consumer Products, Shell Oil, Time, Inc., Travelers Insurance, and Reader's Digest.
He served as chairman of the PWE/PWUS Task Force on Governance, and has led many workshops in Europe, Asia, and North and South America for the partners of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has also taught for many other CED clients including General Electric, IBM, KPMG, Merrill Lynch, United Technologies, Banker's Trust, and the United States Postal Service.
From 1981 through 1983, Doug interrupted his academic career. He served first in Washington as Deputy Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury, where he provided support for the Cabinet Council on Economic Affairs and the National Productivity Advisory Committee. From 1982 to 1983, Doug served as corporate director for special projects for Bendix Corporation in Southfield, Michigan. He was responsible for a number of global strategic projects and was named executive secretary of the Allied-Bendix merger management task force.
He serves on the Board of the Utah State University Research Foundation.
