Architetto ed ingegnere sperimentale

Carlo Ratti è ingegnere civile ed architetto, insegna al Massachusetts Institute of Technology dove dirige il SENSEable City Laboratoty che esplora la “città moderna” studiando come sensori e tecnologie si relazionano con l’ambiente costruito.
E’ fondatore dello studio internazionale di design e innovazione Carlo Ratti Associati. Tra i protagonisti del dibattito sulle influenze delle nuove tecnologie in campo urbano, suoi lavori sono stati esposti da istituzioni culturali tra cui la Biennale di Venezia, il Design Museum di Barcelona, il science Museo di Londra, il MoMA di New York e il MAXXI di Roma.
Due dei suoi progetti – il Digital Water Pavillion e la Copenhagen Wheel – sono stati nominati “Best Innovations of the Year” della rivista Time. Inserito nella lista delle “50 persone che cambieranno il mondo” del magazine Wired, Carlo Ratti ricopre attualmente gli incarichi di copresidente del World Economic Forum Global Future Council su Città e Urbanizzazione, e di special adviser presso la Commissione Europea su Digitale e Smart Cities.
E’ autore di più di 500 pubblicazioni, tra cui il saggio The CIty of TOmorrow (Yale University Press, 2016, scritto da Matthew Claudel), e proprietario di numerosi brevetti tecnici. Suoi articoli ed interviste sono comparsi sulle più importanti testate giornalistiche, tra cui il New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Scientific American, BBC, Project Syndicate, Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Il Sole 24 Ore , La Stampa, Domus e Casabella. Tutto il suo lavoro fornisce una prospettiva interessante su quali tipi di tecnologie sensoriali troveremo nelle città intelligenti del prossimo futuro.
