Expert in International Relations and Security
Graduated with honors in Law from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1982. He spent 40 years in Italian diplomacy, from 1984 to 2024, holding important positions in numerous offices, with positions of maximum responsibility in Rome and around the world. Ambassador since 2017.
Since April 2025 he has been the Italian Special Envoy for the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) and since 2023 he has been Advisor to the Minister of Defense. He was Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Council of Ministers in 2022-2023. Between 2019 and 2022 he was Head of Mission to NATO as Permanent Representative of Italy to the Atlantic Council. He was also Ambassador to Israel between 2012 and 2017. In 2011-2012 he was Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan. Between 2007 and 2011 he was Consul General in New York.
Previously he also served at the Italian Embassies in Japan and Germany and at the Permanent Representation to the UN.
Among his positions in Italy are those of Cyber Security Coordinator at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Coordinator of the OSCE Conference to Combat Anti-Semitism held in Rome in 2018. He also served in the Office of the Diplomatic Advisor to the Council of Ministers from 2002 to 2006 and at the Farnesina he directed the office for relations with South America and held positions at the Press Service, General Secretariat and Cabinet of the Minister.
Retired Lieutenant of the Carabinieri.
