Professional Profile:
Luca Mercalli (Turin, 1966), climatologist, master’s degree in mountain sciences from the Université de Savoie-Mont-Blanc, director of the magazine Nimbus, presides over the Società Meteorologica Italiana, a national association founded in 1865.
He conducts research on Alpine climates and glaciers, teaches environmental sustainability in schools and universities in Italy, Switzerland, and France, and practices it firsthand, living in a solar-powered house, traveling by electric car, and growing vegetables.
He is a consultant to the European Union, European Ambassador for the Climate Pact, and former scientific advisor to ISPRA – Institute for Environmental Protection and Research.
For RAI he collaborated on “Che tempo che fa”, “Scala Mercalli” and “TGMontagne” and Rainews24.
A science journalist and editorialist for Il Fatto Quotidiano, he worked first at La Repubblica and then at La Stampa and has authored thousands of articles and given over 3,300 conferences.
