Tommaso Chieffi boasts over fifty years of competition at the highest level and one of the most prestigious records in the sport.
Tommaso Chieffi is one of the most accomplished figures in Italian and international sailing, with more than 50 years of competition at the highest level and a record among the most prestigious in the sport.
He began sailing at a very young age and represented Italy at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, finishing 5th in the 470 class. The following year he became World Champion in the same Olympic class, launching a career that would take him to the top of international sailing.
He has participated in four America’s Cup campaigns, serving as helmsman, tactician, strategist and Sport & Team Director with prestigious teams such as Il Moro di Venezia, Oracle BMW Racing, Team Italia and Shosholoza.
Among his most important achievements are the victory in the 1992 Louis Vuitton Cup with Il Moro di Venezia and the overall win in the 2005–06 Volvo Ocean Race with ABN AMRO 1.
Throughout his career he has won 29 World Championships, 6 European Championships and 14 Italian Championships, standing out for his leadership, versatility and strategic skills.
In 2021 he was awarded the CONI Golden Collar for Sporting Merit, the highest honor in Italian sport.
Still actively competing, during 2026 he claimed his 14th Italian Championship title and achieved third place at the Offshore Sailing World Championship.
Today he is a frequent speaker and testimonial at corporate events and conferences, sharing his experience on leadership, teamwork, pressure management and the creation of winning teams, drawing strong parallels between the world of sailing and the business environment.
