Gianmarco I.P. Ottaviano is Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Professor of Economics at Bocconi University Milan, Associate of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics and Political Sciene and Vice-Director of the Paolo Baffi Centre on Central Banking and Financial Regulation at Bocconi University Milan. He is research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research London and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Milan as well as non-resident senior fellow of Bruegel Brussels.
He is a member of the scientific advisory boards of the Centro di Alti Studi sulla Cina Contemporanea (CASCC) in Turin, Centre d’études prospectives et d’informations internationales (CEPII) in Paris, Knowledge, Internationalization and Technology Studies (KITeS) at Bocconi University Milan and of the Luiss Lab of European Economics in Rome. He is in the editorial board of the Journal of Regional Science and associate editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Economic Geography, the Regional Science and Urban Economics, Spatial Economic Analysis.
He is the co-author of many works in international trade, urban economics and economic geography. His recent publications focus on the competitiveness of European firms in the global economy as well as the economic effects of immigration and offshoring on employment and wages. In addition to being published in top academic journals, his research has been featured on Business Week, The Economist, Financial Times, New York Times, Newsweek, Newyorker and Sole24Ore.
